Jagaran - Empowering Women & Girls in a Flood Basin Area in Assam

The JAGARAN Project aims to empower women and adolescent girls living in remote and flood-affected areas of Morigaon District, Assam. The project focuses on strengthening women’s social and economic empowerment by organizing them into Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and building their knowledge, skills, confidence, and decision-making capacities.

Through the formation and strengthening of SHGs, women receive training on financial literacy, SHG management, bookkeeping, women’s rights, gender equality, leadership, and other relevant topics. These interventions help women improve their financial knowledge, strengthen their collective capacity, access opportunities, and actively participate in household and community-level decision-making.

The project also focuses on the empowerment of adolescent girls through various life-skills education and development activities. These activities aim to enhance their self-confidence, communication and decision-making skills, awareness of rights and responsibilities, leadership abilities, and capacity to deal with challenges in their personal and social lives.

Overall, the JAGARAN Project seeks to create a supportive environment where women and girls can become more confident, informed, economically capable, and active participants in their families and communities, particularly in the vulnerable flood-affected areas of Morigaon District.
